Young volunteers visit returned overseas Chinese in Zhongshan
2019-09-10

The Youth Volunteer Service Team for Returned Overseas Chinese, an organization directly under the Zhongshan Federation for Returned Overseas Chinese, paid Mid-Autumn Festival visits to returned overseas Chinese in Zhongshan on September 6.

These volunteers were divided into four groups and were to visit the families of eight elderly returned overseas Chinese with specially prepared mooncakes, fruits and other gifts.

Lin Qingyu, resident in Shiqi District, is an Indonesian returnee. She greeted the volunteers at the corner of the street early in the morning having learned that the service team would come.

Nine years ago, Lin's family was crammed into a broken, crowded brick-and-tile-roofed house. "Her family has made a lot of contribution to the construction of their hometown. When the Zhongshan Foreign Affairs Bureau learned of her difficulties, it assisted her in applying for resettlement housing in relevant departments and reduced her rent by half in accordance with the state policy," said Hong Yinglan, head of the Indonesian Overseas Chinese Association.

Presently, Lin Qingyu's family lives in a brand-new two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment of more than 50 square meters, with a 500 yuan monthly rent. Her new home is located near the Home of Overseas Chinese in Zhongshan. It is convenient for her to seek assistance when ever need arises.

Hong Yinglan said, starting last year, the Indonesian Overseas Chinese Association organizes group birthday parties for overseas Chinese quarterly in the Home of Overseas Chinese in Zhongshan, with the support of the Zhongshan Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

Zheng Jingwei, leader of the Youth Volunteer Service Team for Returned Overseas Chinese, said: "There is a large number of returned overseas Chinese, along with their relatives, living in Zhongshan, a famous hometown for overseas Chinese. The Zhongshan Federation for Returned Overseas Chinese actively guides the Youth Volunteer Service Team for Returned Overseas Chinese in paying regular visits to these people, hoping to encourage the youth in the Zhongshan overseas Chinese community not only to care for and help overseas Chinese, but to learn and pass on their patriotic spirit during their visits."
