Popular in Huangpu Town, Sanjiao Town and other regions in Zhongshan, kylin dance was originally an ancient totem worship of the ancestors. It gradually evolved into a folk dance played throughout a year, boasting exquisiteness and mightiness. Traditionally, kylin dance was played to entertain people, on occasions such as the completion of new house construction, marriage of a couple, launching of a new boat, opening of a new store, and the coming of important seasons. The main representative forms of kylin dance include ˇ°plucking the green on the earthˇ±, and ˇ°plucking the green in the airˇ±. Huangpu kylin dance was included into the list of the 2nd Guangdong Province non-material cultural heritages in 2007.
