West Sunwen Road Historical and Cultural District is located inside Zhongshan Historical City Proper. Centering around West Sunwen Road Qilou Street, the protection area includes the south of Yandun Mountain, north of Wenlaitang Street, east of Qi River, and the west of Yuelai Road, covering an area of 7.1 hectares.
Inside the West Sunwen Road District there is one cultural relic protection unit, which involves the site of Sihao Hotel, 8 excellent historical buildings, and 11 historical heritages. West Sunwen Road is the typical modern business street in the Pearl River Delta. Its architectural spatial framework adopts arcade which is popular in the South of the Five Ridges. Meanwhile, leaning on Yandun Mountain in the north and connecting Zhongshan iron city and the dock area along the Qi River Bridge, West Sunwen District is the most prosperous commercial center in modern Zhongshan.
West Sunwen Road Historical and Cultural District has the extant historical traditional construction area of 14,400 square meters, and around 90 houses. The extant architectures along the West Sunwen Road are mainly buildings built in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. The important architectures within the district are mostly in good preservation. The original city layout and the surrounding environment atmosphere are almost wholly maintained. From the perspective of architectural style, Chinese traditional architecture, the overseas Chinese architecture with eclectic style, and the classical revival architecture coexist. Leaning on the hills in the north, the district connects old Zhongshan city and Qi River. Featuring intertwining streets, serene lanes, simple architectural color, exquisite carving and elegant furnishing, the district integrates the eastern and western culture, and represents the harmonious unity of architecture and natural environment.Go Back
